Xiaomi significantly cuts the price of its SU7 sedan in China

For the time being, it is unknown whether these improvements will also reach the YU7 SUV, the SU7’s sibling model.

Xiaomi has just unveiled in China the latest update to its SU7 electric sedan, with more competitive prices and considerable technical improvements worth noting.

The SU7 now has a base price on the Chinese market of 219,900 yuan -roughly 27,600 euros at current exchange rates-, which is 10,000 yuan -roughly 1,250 euros- less than the price announced in January.

This price reduction is undoubtedly strategic, as the revamped SU7 now holds a clear price advantage over the Tesla Model 3, which is available in the Chinese market from 258,900 yuan. That amounts to nearly 5 thousand euros of difference at current exchange rates.

Which one would you choose?

The range of the new SU7 consists of three versions: the base Standard at 219,900 yuan, the mid-range Pro at 249,900 yuan and the top-of-the-range Max at 303,900 yuan.

The exterior and interior design remains practically identical, with minor changes, but the most important novelties are concentrated in the technical area: batteries, motors, suspension and driver-assistance systems.

A substantial improvement in the SU7’s architecture deserves particular mention, with the gains in efficiency and battery pack charging times that this implies. The base version goes from 400 V to 752 V with its 73 kWh battery pack, while at the top of the range the Max version reaches 897 V with its 101.7 kWh battery pack.

This important improvement enables dazzlingly ultra-fast charging. Xiaomi claims that it is now possible to recover up to 670 km (according to the CLTC cycle) in just 15 minutes, compared with 510 km for the previous model.

You will go even further

Range also improves across all versions: 720 km in the Standard (previously 700 km), 902 km in the Pro (previously 830 km) and 835 km in the Max (previously 800 km). Although battery capacities have barely changed, the greater efficiency seems to come from the combination of higher voltage, new motors and general optimisations.

All models now incorporate the improved V6s Plus motor, which previously was fitted only to some versions. In the entry-level rear-wheel-drive version, power rises from 220 kW to 235 kW, while in the Max the total system output goes from 495 kW to 507 kW. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h stands at 5.3 s (Standard), 5.7 s (Pro) and 3.1 s (Max). In addition, the rear tyres have been widened to 265 mm (previously 245 mm) to improve grip.

The new SU7 has taken another major leap forward in its chassis and, as a consequence, in passenger comfort levels. All three versions now include double-chamber air suspension with CDC adaptive dampers, which previously was fitted only on the Max. The brakes and body structure have also been reinforced, and two more airbags have been added (nine in total).

Safety has also been enhanced by greater availability of driver-assistance systems across all versions. All of them now feature LiDAR, advanced sensors and a computing power of 700 TOPS (previously only 508 TOPS in the higher trims and just 84 TOPS in the base model).

This major renewal of the SU7 allows Xiaomi to maintain its ambitious goal of delivering 550,000 vehicles over the course of 2026.
