The new KIA PV7 surprises and brings the latest technology to last-mile transport

KIA has unveiled its new electric van in Hannover, with a larger size than the PV5, an 800-volt architecture and two battery options.

The IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover was the stage chosen by KIA to present the new KIA PV7, the higher-spec version of the already well-known PV5. This new electric van from the Korean brand offers more cargo capacity, a higher payload and a new-generation 800-volt architecture that is more efficient than the one used so far.

The prototype of this van was presented in 2024 and shares design elements with the PV5, although it has a distinct style. At the front, you can see split headlights, sculpted wheel arches, sliding rear doors, and a protective cladding has been fitted around the bodywork.

Inside, the emphasis has been on comfort, so it bears no resemblance to a work vehicle and could easily pass for a passenger car. The instrument display measures 9.9 inches and the multimedia screen measures 14.6 inches. It runs on the Pleos Connect operating system, based on Android. It also features the Gleo AI voice recognition system.

To complete the cabin ambience there is ambient lighting, physical controls on the two-spoke steering wheel and also below the central screen, so everything is within the driver’s reach.

Bigger and with greater capacity

The KIA PV7 has a length of 5,350 millimetres and a wheelbase of 3,500 millimetres. This makes it 655 millimetres longer than the PV5. The brand plans to launch up to 23 variants of this model, including versions with a taller and longer roof, which will increase its cargo capacity.

At the event, KIA presented a three-seat cargo version and a nine-seat passenger transport version. The latter features equipment designed to give occupants the utmost comfort, with windows and a rear tailgate rather than the typical van-style rear doors.

The Cargo Long version has a volume of 6.1 cubic metres, while the Cargo High Roof can carry 8 cubic metres. The PV7 Compact has a payload capacity of 1,200 kg, and longer objects can slide under the front seats to improve loading.

In addition, the passenger versions can be seven-, eight- and eleven-seat. At the rear there is an independent climate control system and USB-C charging ports. For safety, seven airbags have been installed, along with a very comprehensive suite of ADAS.

Battery and motors

The KIA PV7 uses the E-GMP.S platform, which is specific to electric vehicles. While the KIA PV5 uses a 400-volt architecture, this new model uses an 800-volt one. It features a single electric motor at the front with a power output of 268 CV and a maximum torque of 420 Nm.

It is offered with two battery options: one with a capacity of 71.5 kWh and a larger one of 96.2 kWh. The higher-capacity version offers a range of up to 460 kilometres. With DC fast charging at 350 kW it can charge in 25 minutes, and it has a V2L system. It offers two charging ports: one at the front with AC and DC charging capability and an optional AC port at the rear.

The van will be available in Europe in mid-2027, while the larger PV9 will arrive two years later.
