10 new electric SUVs that are going to make a splash in 2021
Get ready, because SUVs with more “spark” are on their way: we have selected 10 new electric SUVs arriving in 2021 that will make you look at electromobility with fresh eyes.

Sales of electric cars keep on growing. And they will grow even more in the coming months, when the avalanche of new releases heading our way will considerably widen the choice available. Especially among SUVs, a category that will see a particularly large increase in the number of electrically powered models on offer.
Whether you are ready for electromobility or are still thinking about making the switch, these are the 10 electric SUVs arriving in 2021, which are set to send sparks flying in the category.
Audi Q4 e-tron

Audi is launching its new electric SUV, the Audi Q4 e-tron, in 2021. As with the current e-tron and e-tron Sportback, the electric Q4 will also come in two body styles, of which we have already seen a preview in two prototypes: the Audi Q4 e-tron concept and the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept.

Both use the MEB modular platform of the Volkswagen Group, specifically designed for electric models. The prototypes showed a two-motor configuration, one on each axle, producing a combined output of 306 CV. But Audi announces that there will also be versions with a single rear-mounted motor, which will achieve a range of more than 500 km.
Dacia Spring

Whether its price will make it the most affordable electric car in Europe remains to be seen, but what will almost certainly be Dacia Spring is the cheapest electric SUV. Dacia will thus follow in the footsteps of the Sandero, with a car that puts electric mobility within reach of any budget.

With a body length of 3.73 metres (about 35 cm shorter than a Sandero) and a tight turning circle, the Dacia Spring is clearly oriented towards urban use, yet offers an interior with room for four occupants and a boot capacity of 300 litres. Its 44 CV electric motor and 26.8 kWh battery give it a WLTP range of 225 km. It can be recharged in about 5 hours using a Wallbox, and in less than an hour the battery reaches 80% capacity using fast charging at 30 kW.
BMW iX3

The electric version of the BMW X3, the new BMW iX3, now has a price: from just under 78,000 euros. It will reach dealerships from March 2021. It competes in size and price with other electric SUVs such as the Jaguar I-Pace or the Mercedes-Benz EQC. It has an electric motor rated at 286 CV on the rear axle and an 80 kWh battery. The official range is almost 460 km. It supports fast charging at up to 150 kW.

Unlike other electric cars with their own “identity”, the iX3 keeps the exterior and interior design of the BMW X3, with some elements that distinguish the electric version. The battery sits under the boot floor, between the two axles. You can choose between two trim levels, called Inspring and Impressive. One of its main rivals is in-house: here we tell you the price difference and why it could be worth choosing the BMW X3 plug-in hybrid.
Ford Mustang Mach-E

Without a doubt, the Mustang Mach-E is set to be one of the leading electric SUVs in 2021. For several reasons, including its design, the wide range of motor and battery options, its range and, above all, its price, which is much more affordable than other SUVs of similar size and performance. It can already be reserved, with prices starting from 48,500 euros for the rear-wheel-drive version with a 260 CV motor and 75.5 kWh battery, which provides a range of 450 km.

The most powerful versions go up to the 465 CV of the exclusive Mustang Mach-E GT, expected by the end of 2021. And the longest-range versions exceed 600 km, thanks to a battery of almost 100 kWh. We look forward to driving it, and the Mustang Mach-E looks promising. Here you can find out more in detail about the full range and its prices for Spain.
Nissan Ariya

Based on the Ariya prototype that Nissan presented in 2019, the production Nissan Ariya has been rushed to market: it could be available even before the end of 2020. At 4.60 metres long, it sits directly in the mid-size SUV category, and will have the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Skoda Enyaq iV as some of its main rivals.

Nissan has already revealed the final look of the Ariya, both exterior and interior, as well as its drivetrain range. It will be offered in versions with a 63 or 87 kWh battery, outputs between 220 and 395 CV, and the option of front-wheel drive (single motor) or all-wheel drive (one motor on each axle). The range, depending on the motor and battery combination, starts at a minimum of 360 and goes up to 500 km. Notably, with the 63 kWh battery the on-board charger is 7.4 kW, and 22 kW with the larger battery. It supports DC charging at a maximum power of 130 kW.
Opel Mokka-e

One of the electric SUVs that has surprised us most of those presented in recent months is the new Opel Mokka-e. We had the chance to see it in person, and here we tell you our impressions after the first static hands-on contact with the Mokka-e. We also analyse its price: taking into account all the possible discounts and purchase incentives, it comes down to a very competitive 26,200 euros.

Among the things we liked most about the Opel Mokka-e, especially compared with other electric SUVs it shares its platform and drivetrain with, such as the DS-3 Crossback E-Tense and the Peugeot e-2008, we would highlight its fresh, youthful and sporty design, with many personalisation options, as well as a very high-tech, digitalised interior. It has a 136 CV motor, and the official range is 320 km.
Skoda Enyaq iV

What a remarkable car Skoda has pulled out of its hat with the Enyaq! In this first static hands-on contact with the Skoda Enyaq iV we tell you in more detail why we think it could be one of the revolutions in the electric SUV category. Especially with a price to match, something Skoda has already accustomed us to. We are looking at a genuine electric car designed for every use, that is, as your only family car.

And not just because of its size or boot capacity. It sits between the Karoq and the Kodiaq, but is closer to the latter in terms of interior space. And with a presence and build quality that, once again, surprises us from the Czech brand. The launch range for Spain starts from a price from 39,000 euros for the Enyaq iV 60, with 180 CV, a 58 kWh battery and a range of 390 km. The Enyaq iV 80, with a 205 CV motor and 77 kWh battery, exceeds 500 km of range.
In both cases, you can benefit from discounts of between 2,000 and 3,000 euros, in addition to the purchase incentives from the Moves Plan. Deliveries start in May, and shortly afterwards the 80X and RS versions with two motors and all-wheel drive will arrive.
Tesla Model Y

Many of Tesla’s followers have been waiting to buy the Model Y, which has suffered several delays. You can reserve it and configure it on Tesla’s website, where it is announced that production will begin in early 2021. There are two versions, both with two motors and all-wheel drive. The Model Y Long Range starts at 64,000 euros and claims a range of 505 km. The Performance increases the output from 350 to 480 CV, costs 70,000 euros and has a range of 480 km. It claims an impressive 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 3.7 seconds.

Customers are expected to receive the first units in March. Later it will be available in a more accessible version, with a single motor, rear-wheel drive and greater range. Despite not being a large SUV (it measures 4.75 metres in length), it can be chosen in a seven-seat version. Here you have more details about when the Model Y can be bought in Spain and its prices.
Volkswagen ID.4

The SUV version of the Volkswagen ID.3, the ID.4, measures 4.58 metres in length, and is available from 45,485 euros in a launch version called 1st Edition, which is characterised by a very complete standard specification. At launch it is offered only with the 204 CV motor and 77 kWh battery, which gives 500 km of range. New motor and battery versions will be added later.

Like the ID.3 (here you can read the review), the ID.4 uses the group’s MEB platform, developed for purely electric cars. They share the minimalist interior design, which in the case of the ID.4 offers a lot of room and a boot of around 540 litres. Here you have information on the prices of the Volkswagen ID.4.
Volvo XC40 Recharge

Although we have been talking about it for some time, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is still not on sale; 2021 will be its year. It arrives with a drivetrain layout that includes two motors, one on each axle (so it has all-wheel drive), for a combined system output of 408 CV. The 78 kWh battery provides a range of more than 400 km, which was an impressive figure when Volvo announced its first electric SUV, but is now starting to look a little short.

It supports DC charging with power of up to 150 kW, which allows going from 0 to 80% battery capacity in about 40 minutes. There are no details on the price yet, and there is no page set up by the brand where reservations can be made.
Bonus: Mercedes EQA, the entry-level electric SUV in the range

One of the latest electric cars to have just been presented, and which is set to be a highlight this year, 2021, is the new Mercedes EQA, the compact SUV from the star brand, which becomes the entry-level 100% electric model in its range. It initially launches in a launch version, the EQA 250, with front-wheel drive, a 190 CV motor, a 66.5 kWh battery and a range of 426 km. But shortly after launch the range will be expanded with more powerful versions (up to 272 CV), with all-wheel drive and larger-capacity batteries, which will allow up to 500 km of range.

The electric version of the Mercedes A-Class differs aesthetically in some respects, mainly the closed grille and bumpers, as well as the rear light clusters, which are now joined together. The number plate has also moved from the tailgate to the rear bumper. The interior is practically identical to that of the Mercedes A-Class. Two trims will be offered, Electric Art or AMG Line, as well as the Edition 1 version, which will be sold only in the first year.
